A solid game plan wore down in Saturday's surprising autumn heat, as the EMU field hockey women fell 6-0 to visiting Centre College.

Game time temperatures were in the low 80s, but the bold sun made the turf playing surface feel even hotter, making it feel more like late August rather than the first weekend of October.

Eastern Mennonite slipped to 6-5 with the non-conference loss. They look to break a three-game skid in Tuesday's hosting of Bridgewater College. Game time is 6:00pm.

Centre got on the board early, with a rebounded shot in the 15th minute.

The Royals out together a flurry midway through the first, earning a trio of corners, but only came out of it with a wide shot from Lauren Hartzler (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) in the 23rd minute.

EMU's defense held firm, however, leaving the deficit at 1-0 at halftime.

Over the final 35 minutes, however, the advantage of the Colonel's noticeably deeper bench became more and more apparent. The starting unit made the margin 3-0 by the 47th minute, while the bench added three more tallies between the 55th and 59th minutes for the final margin.

Goalie Kelsey Troyer (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) racked up 13 saves.
