Soccer Team Ties Program Record In 9-0 Win
EMU's soccer women equaled their win total from last season on Saturday, and it only took five games to do it. The Lady Royals trumped Trinity (D.C.) on the road by a convincing 9-0 score, improving to 3-2 in 2012, just a year after finishing 3-15.
Eastern Mennonite tied a program record by scoring nine goals in the win, a total which was reached three times in the 2000 and 2001 seasons.
Sophomore Nora Osei (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) got the parade started just two minutes into Saturday's contest and then added a second score just four minutes later. Carli Taylor (Germantown, MD/St. Johns) equaled Osei's fete by scoring goals in the 19th and 23rd minutes for a 4-0 lead.
Osei then completed her hat trick in the 30th minute and Elisa Ott (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) made it 6-0 heading into halftime.
Taylor scored in the 54th minute to finish off her hat trick. Ott hit the net 11 minutes later and defender Naomi Good (Columbia, PA/Lancaster Mennonite), the only healthy hold-over from the 2011 team, got her first collegiate score in 70th minute to produce the final margin.
Morgan Hill (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) had a pair of assists, as did Holly Jensen (Canton, OH/Glen Oak). Ott added a helper to her two goals and Janna Kaufman (Friedens, PA/Johnstown Christian) also had an assist.
The Lady Royals complete a short road swing on Monday, playing at Frostburg State at 7:00pm. It will be their third road game in six days.
