Visiting York (Pa.) College took down the field hockey women Saturday afternoon in the season opener for EMU. The talented Spartans built up a big lead and took a 6-1 final.

York scored twice in the first 10 minutes and led 5-0 by the 41st minute.

Goalie Kelsey Troyer (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) played well despite being peppered with shot attempts. The sophomore racked up 19 saves, the second-highest total of her career.

Sophomore Julie Burkhardt (Perkasie, Pa./PA Cyber) broke the shutout with a goal in the 69th minute. Emily Augsburger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) and Lorraine Armstrong (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) had the only other shots on goal.

It will be a quick turnaround for Eastern Mennonite, as the women host Ferrum College Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm.
