The EMU field hockey women capitalized on an early advantage as they rolled to a 3-0 victory over Hood College Wednesday afternoon in Harrisonburg.
The Royals have now won four games in a row to improve their record to 5-1 on the season.
EMU came out with a fast start scoring just 3:51 into the game. Skylar Hedgepeth (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) took a cross from Lauren Hartzler (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) in front of the goal and squeezed the ball into the left side of the cage.
Controlling the ball for the majority of the first half. EMU capitalized on another scoring opportunity at the 12:30 mark when Hedgepeth tallied her second goal of the contest on a very similar cross play that was set up by Hannah Nichols (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor).
The Royals added a third goal and final goal at 21:14 into the half as Bri Miller (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) found some space in front of the cage off a pass from Hedgepeth.
The second half was controlled mostly by the Royals, but the Blazzers were able to create a few scoring opportunities that the EMU defense was able to break up.
Kelsey Troyer (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) had 2 saves in goal for the Royals. EMU outshot Hood 46-3.
The Royals will play at home again on Friday, September 21 at 7:00pm against Wesley College.
