The EMU soccer women lost on the road at McDaniel on Wednesday by a score of 2-0. The game ended early in the 79th minute due to lightning and the inability to resume play before sunset. This is the first loss of the season for the Royals after winning their first four games.

The Green Terror played a strong defensive first half not allowing a shot, while the Royals were able to hold up against their offensive barrage of 16 first half shots to go into halftime scoreless.

McDaniel found the back of the net in the 51st minute when Hannah Schepers took a pass from Sara McDonald. Just moments later in the 55th minute, Megan Henderson added an insurance goal for the Green Terror.

The Royals were able to get two shot attempts off by Haley Barnes (Bassett, Va./Bassett) and Laura Troyer (Millersburg, Ohio/Central Christian) in the 56th minute, but came up short in their best scoring opportunity of the game.  Leah Wenger (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) had seven saves in net for EMU.

The soccer women have more than a week until their next game. They do not play again until Sunday, September 22, when they host Greensboro at 3:00pm.
