Royals Come Out On Top in RussMatt Central Florida Invitational

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – EMU baseball matched up against the Panthers of The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. This game was set in Auburndale just as the last contest as the Royals competed in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

In the first game of the invitational, EMU was able to score a number of runs in a well-rounded team performance. Through the first and third innings the Royals were running away with the game as they led 16-0. The match would then end through seven innings as EMU would come out on top 20-9.

Highlights 

  • In the top of the first, first baseman Alec Riles singled to center field, earning two RBI's as Nick Arnold and Ethan Spraker scored. In the top of the second, Julian La Bella would hit a single and earn two RBI's seeing Natty Solomon and Cole Bashinksi earn runs. 

  • At the top of the third the lead was extended to 10-0 in favor of the Royals as catcher Mattew Harding would hit a single and earn an RBI off of a Bashinski score. Nick Arnold would push the lead even further as the Junior singled and gained two RBI's off runs from Ethan Spraker and Dylan Hall

  • Sophomore shortstop Hunter Sturgeon capped off the final run for the Royals in the top of the sixth inning as he hit a double and earned himself an RBI as Dylan Hall scored off an advancement from third base.

What's Next

The EMU Royals will be traveling back home as their next test will be against the Maroon of Roanoke College. The first game of this double header will be held at the EMU baseball field at 12:00 pm.
