Diamond Royals Fall on the Road at W&L

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Royals baseball team faced off against the Generals of Washington and Lee University on Wednesday, wrapping up the season series against W&L.

EMU pounded out nine hits, but could only push across two runs as W&L used seven runs in the first three innings to pick up a 12-2 win over EMU.

Highlights

  • Washington and Lee took a scored four run in the first and three more the third, chasing Riles, who got the start on the mound for EMU.
  • In the top of the fifth inning, third baseman Nick Arnold walked with the bases loaded and got himself an RBI as first baseman Erik Wilkinson scored after singling with one out. But that would be it for EMU as the final batter flied out to end the bases loaded threat.  
  • In the top of the 7th inning, the Royals added another run behind a sacrifice fly to center field from shortstop Ethan Spraker, scoring Wilkinson.
  • Derek Ryan and Colby Massengill threw the final 2.1 innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one earned run.

What's Next

The Royals will return home to face ODAC opponent Ferrum College in a double header on Saturday. The first pitch against the Panthers will take place at noon.
