Royals Defense Stingy in Shutout of Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. – Sometimes all it takes is one…but three is better. 

Juliana Ghally picked up a first quarter goal, Brandy Troutman and Morgan Leslie added insurance goals in the fourth and the Royals defense stood firm as EMU picked up a 2-0 shutout of Ferrum.

Records: EMU 9-6, 2-4 ODAC | Ferrum 4-10, 0-6 ODAC

Highlights

  • 3' – Troutman picked up the Royals first shot of the game, but it was saved by the Ferrum keeper to keep the game scoreless. EMU had three more shot on the Panthers keeper over the next five minutes, but wasn't able to put one past her.
  • 9' – J. Ghally gave EMU a 1-0 lead when she dribbled to the middle of the circle and fired a shot in, finding the back of the cage.
  • 23' – Ann Ghally picked up her first three saves on back-to-back-to-back shots by Ferrum, but the senior turned them all away to keep the shutout intact.
  • The Royals offense kept pushing, making the Panthers keeper continue to work, but she picked up three saves as the teams went to the locker room with EMU ahead 1-0.
  • EMU's defense held Ferrum without a shot in the third quarter, protecting their one-goal lead.
  • 48' – Troutman added a big insurance goal minutes into the fourth quarter. Off a penalty corner, Troutman played a big shot from the back of the circle that was saved by the Ferrum keeper. The rebound came out to Troutman who, this time, wouldn't be denied and blasted the shot in, putting EMU ahead 2-0.
  • 49' – After J. Ghally's shot was blocked in front of the cage, Leslie was right there to put the deflection back for the Royals third goal.
  • The Royals defense continued to dominate, holding the Panthers without a shot in the second half as well and A. Ghally and Marie Wilson combined for the shutout.
