GETTYSBURG, Pa. – It was a tale of two halves for the EMU men's basketball team on Saturday.
The Royals, who were playing their third straight road matchup to start the 2022-23 season, had an eight-point lead at the break. Unfortunately, the Bullets outscored EMU, 36-24, in the second frame to pick up a 60-56 home win.

The Royals offense came out hot, using a pair of threes from Landon Swingler and DaiJordan Brown to take an early 6-2 lead. They continued to hold the lead and were able to extend it to 11 with an Aviwe Mahlong three and five points from Andre Pacheco. Each time Gettysburg was able to cut into the deficit, the Royals hit a shot to push their lead back to double-digits. With the Royals up by 12, GC went on a 5-0 run before a Swingler layup stopped the tilt. After Gettysburg cut the Royals lead to five late in the half, Mahlong drilled another three to put EMU ahead by eight at the half.
Mahlong's layup to start the second half pushed the Royals lead back to 10 before Gettysburg responded with a basket of their own. The teams continued to trade points and another Mahlong layup at the 8:34 mark pushed EMU's lead back to give, 46-41. The Bullets then went on an 8-2 run to take their first lead of the game, 49-48. EMU took the lead right back with three straight but a three from Gettysburg put the Bullets back on top. After a Swingler layup game EMU a one-point lead, GC scored seven straight to pull ahead for good. Mahlong hit a three with 20 seconds left to cut the Bullets lead to three but the Royals weren't able to tie things up in the final seconds.

After two weeks on the road to start the season, EMU will open up its home slate on Tuesday with a 7 pm matchup against Goucher.
